What is PageRank?
PageRank is a link analysis algorithm named after Larry Page. It is used by the Google Internet search engine to assign a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied...... blah blah blahLayman's terms PageRank tells Google how important a web page is in relation to every other page on the internet. A new website will have a PR (PageRank) of 0, an unimportant website may have a 1 or 2. A corner stone of the Internet like facebook.com or google.com have PR10.
The higher a website's PageRank, the more important it is and also the more important a link from them is. No one but Google knows exactly the weighting of PageRank but one PR2 website backlink could be worth more then one hundred PR1 links. One PR4 backlink could be worth more then one thousand PR1 Backlinks
